Hi. We want to be honest about what this is before you read further. This is a small, free project. One developer, one family's effort. There is no company behind it, no investors, no growth team. What follows is the legal stuff, but written so you can actually read it.
What this is
Judío pero no judío (English: Jewish but not Jewish) is a free, bilingual reading companion for people raised disconnected from a Jewish family background. You sign in, you have a short conversation, you read a small set of chapters, you keep a private notebook. That's it. There is no social feed, no leaderboard, no premium tier, no ads.
It is free
Everything in the app is free to use. If the project ever adds a donation button, that's a donation and not a payment. You don't owe anything for using it, and nothing is held back unless you pay. If you ever see a paywall in here, something has gone wrong and we'd love to hear about it.
Use at your own pace, and at your own risk
This is offered as-is. We try very hard to make it accurate and gentle, but we're not a therapist, not a rabbi, not a lawyer, not a historian of record, and not your doctor. Some of the material in here touches on the Shoah, family silence, and loss. If any of it hits harder than you expected, please close the tab, take care of yourself, and if you need real support, reach out to someone trained to help. We mean this warmly.
What you write stays yours
Anything you type into the notebook is encrypted in our database so that only your account can read it back. We can't see your notebook. We don't train models on it. If you delete your account, your notebook goes with it. The same goes for the private intake conversation: it's associated with your account and isn't shown to anyone else.
AI is part of this
The intake conversation and the personalized chapter intros are written with help from large language models (currently Claude and, as a backup, OpenAI). AI sometimes invents things that sound real but aren't. If you're about to act on something it said, please double-check it against a source you trust. We log AI calls so we can keep an eye on the project, but we do not send your content to any third party other than the AI provider itself, and only so that the provider can generate the reply you asked for.
Family invitations
If you invite a family member, they get their own private copy of the experience. Your notebook is not shared with them, and their notebook is not shared with you. The only thing that's passed along is the starter facts about the family tree, so they don't have to retype everything.
Your account
Please don't share your sign-in link or password. You're responsible for what happens under your account. If someone else gets in, let us know and we'll help you recover it.
Please don't be cruel
Don't try to break the app, don't scrape it, don't use it to target other people, and don't upload anything that could hurt someone. We reserve the right to remove accounts that are doing any of those things, and to do it without a long warning process, because there are real people on the other side of this project.
Things may change
This is a small project and it evolves. If the Terms change in a way that matters, we'll say so on the site. If we shut the project down, we'll do our best to give you a way to export your notebook before that happens.
